Dear No One

I've always been very comfortable being by myself. It gives me time to think. But somewhere along the way, I became comfortable having someone else with me through all those things. I realize that by allowing someone else to become such a big part of me, I became very dependent on them even though I am a very independent woman. So much so, that when they left I suddenly had to figure things out, alone. And it was hard.  Really hard.

What I've come to realize lately is that being alone is not bad OR sad, even though society puts some type of negative stigma to it.  People need to try it more often. And no, I am not here to bash those who are in relationships... that is not my intention at all. Nor am I saying that you are not independent just because you are not alone. Trust me. Being alone does not mean being independent and vice-versa. I am just here to say that everyone should be comfortable with some amount of alone time because it is healthy.

For those of you who are more conservative.... yes you! The ones who are thinking, "Well, no wonder why she is single. She's being a brat and all self righteous about being alone."  All I really have to say is, "Shhhhhhhh.. chillax.." .... Right now, in this moment of MY life, I prefer to be alone because it would be unfair for me to be in a relationship that I am not ready to fully be invested in.  Think about it.  Would you want to be with someone whose is telling you they are emotionally unavailable? No! You wouldn't. Nobody would. And if you say yes, then you need some alone time too because it isn't healthy for you or the other person.

I will give it to you all though... and admit it that yes, being alone does have its moments of loneliness -- but can you deny that you feel lonely even when you are in a relationship?  You can't, can you? I honestly believe that feeling lonely is healthy because it shows that you are not complacent and have desire inside of you. That's a good thing. It means you aren't a complete rock. Lol.

With that being said, I end this blog post with this song by Tori Kelly called "Dear No One." It's a great song and I feel it reflects what I am experiencing right now. My interpretation is that this girl is independent and likes to do her own thing. Sure, at times she feels lonely but she isn't ready to put herself out there. She is allowing life to run its course because when the time is right, she knows what she has to offer: her love. So as corny as this may sound... to my "no one" out there, I'm figuring things out for myself right now... but when the time comes, I'll be worth the wait. I promise.

"Dear No One"

I like being independent
Not so much of an investment
No one to tell me what to do
I like being by myself
Don’t gotta entertain anybody else
No one to answer to

But sometimes, I just want somebody to hold
Someone to give me their jacket when its cold
Got that young love even when we’re old
Yeah sometimes, I want someone to grab my hand
Pick me up, pull me close, be my man
I will love you till the end

So if you’re out there I swear to be good to you
But I’m done lookin’, for my future someone
Cause when the time is right
You’ll be here, but for now
Dear no one, this is your love song

I don’t really like big crowds
I tend to shut people out
I like my space, yeah
But I’d love to have a soul mate
God will give him to me someday
& I know it’ll be worth the wait

So if you’re out there I swear to be good to you
But I’m done lookin’, for my future someone
Cause when the time is right
You’ll be here, but for now
Dear no one, this is your love song

But sometimes, I just want somebody to hold
Someone to give me their jacket when its cold
Got that young love even when we’re old
Yeah sometimes, I want someone to grab my hand
Pick me up, pull me close, be my man
I will love you till the end

So if you’re out there I swear to be good to you
But I’m done lookin’, for my future someone
Cause when the time is right
You’ll be here, but for now
Dear no one, this is your love song
