About Me


My name is Cathy and I am generally a happy person.  I love the simple things in life, such as playing board games, cooking, and sitting at home with the family.  I also love adventures, trying new things, and laughing out loud.  Anything that will not kill me, I am willing to try at least once.  That's my motto in life.

I have been blessed to have a very supportive and loving family.  My mother and father are my biggest cheerleaders.  My brothers and sisters are my greatest fans. (Hahaha, they may not agree with that one. Lol)  I always try to put family first, because my dreams would not be possible without their support. Along with my family, I have also been lucky to have amazing friends and mentors who have stayed with me through my highest ups and my lowest downs.  I am eternally grateful and never forget the lessons they have taught me in life.

 I work at a local non profit by day and run a small business called The Black Umbrella by night. When I am not working, I am blogging, cooking, or volunteering in my community. In my spare time, I love to travel, rock out to Pandora, and clean my car (it's oddly therapeutic). My guilty pleasure is lounging in bed all day while watching endless episodes of Law and Order. 

The reason why I started this blog is because I am looking for self improvement.  As I get older, I like to reflect back and think of all the things that I have been through that make me the person I am today.  I wanted to start a blog that will show me how strong or vulnerable I can be and how I can learn or stray from those life-lessons.

Together, as you read my blog, I hope you learn more about yourself and I can learn from you as well. I hope we challenge ourselves and try new things.  I hope we keep traditions and form new ones.  And most importantly, I hope you find a bit of myself in you as I am sure we can all relate to each other through our different experiences.

Haha... so much for posting the about part 2 of our wedding. Fast forward almost a year and a half later and here we are with a very special "plus 1" in our lives... my little Lincoln. Cue the awws folks... Aaaaawwwwww.... My heart feels so full. Becoming a mother has been the BIGGEST lesson in my entire life. Screw all the heart breaks... this is a crazy roller coaster. Haha, no I'm kidding. Those heart breaks taught me a lot about myself but I can confidently say nothing... seriously, NOTHING...can prepare anyone for parenthood. And I am not even talking about the poop spraying into your mouth type of experiences, I am referencing that raw vulnerability that keeps you awake at night because you love this little human so much. I have been anticipating whether I want to keep blogging. What do you think, World? Is it time to pick it back up again?

20 Questions

As some of you may know, I got into a relationship earlier this year and it has certainly been life changing. I would occasionally share random pictures of ourselves on social media but being particularly shy and private about my relationship life, it took me a while to get used to even calling him my boyfriend. This probably sounds silly, but I held off on saying anything for a long period of time for two main reasons… First, a part of me felt scared that if I officially announced our relationship, that it would mean everything was real. This was really scary for me as it made me feel very vulnerable because something as good as this felt nearly impossible to me at the time. The second part of my hesitation was due to me feeling nervous. About what exactly? Well, I felt nervous that making any public announcements would mean pressure from myself and others. Make A Choice

Ever have to make a choice and not know which one to choose?  The feeling is dreadful. You weigh out the pros and cons… You weigh out your heart and your mind.  You wonder which choice will benefit you now and which will benefit you on the long run.  You literally cannot stomach the anticipation that it makes you want to throw up.  Your fingers get jittery.  Your heart rate starts elevating. Your mind might as well be a 10000 piece jigsaw puzzle in a box. You drive yourself crazy.  You lay awake at night, thinking.  You sit awake during the day, thinking. And then, you choose . The hardest part to making a choice, is living with it.  How do we know we made the right one? How do we abide by the choices that we make?  How do we avoid relapse?
